The role that faith plays in Entrepreneurship:

Faith-driven entrepreneurs view themselves as stewards of the resources and talents they were given by God. They use their business skills and resources responsibly and ethically for the betterment of their society and in alignment with their faith.

Faith provides entrepreneurs with a strong moral compass, helping us stay grounded and focused on what's truly important. This can help us make decisions that align with our values, even when it's not the easiest or most profitable choice.

But faith isn’t just spiritual - its a state of mind and can be developed by training your mind to believe positive thoughts and dismiss negative thoughts.

One of my favorite examples of this is self suggestion.

Self suggestion: if you repeat something enough, you will soon believe it to be fact. Therefore if you speak to yourself the things you want and who you desire to be, you will soon believe it and therefore subconsciously make decisions that align with that belief.

Our thoughts dominate our mind. Change your thoughts and you will change your reality over time.

You must have a clear mental picture of the person you want to become and the life you want to obtain.

Combine your spiritual faith with the mental state of faith and you can do ANYTHING.

Another huge way that faith shows up in Entrepreneurship is in the form of confidence.

Self confidence is a CHOICE! It is a form of believing in yourself and in your journey. This is why the most confident people are typically those who:

  • Practice their skill sets often

  • Put themselves out there consistently

  • Have daily routines that enforce self suggestion (such as prayer or journaling)

Because confidence grows each time you prepare yourself to do something, you tell yourself you can do it and then you prove to yourself that you can do it - by actually doing it.

This is why I always preach setting small tangible goals. Each time you set a goal and reach it, you grow a little more confident. People who set unrealistic goals and never meet them are actively decreasing their confidence levels.

4 Ways to build your faith in order to be the best entrepreneur you can be.

I’ve seen first hand how building your faith will directly make you a better entrepreneur! And not just that, a better friend, a better daughter, a better spouse and overall a better person!

The 5 ways to build your faith:

  1. Believe in your purpose

  2. Have a plan for your purpose

  3. Make prayer an consistent part of your life

  4. Have routines that supports growing your faith

  5. Daily journaling or affirmations

Believe in your purpose

The first thing you need to do is remind yourself of your purpose. Ask yourself the following Questions:

  1. Why do you feel like you’re on this earth?

  2. How does your natural god given talents allow you to benefit the world?

  3. Who are you meant to serve?

  4. How can you better serve?

Have a plan for your purpose

Once you’re clear and sold on your purpose, you have to have a tangible plan that allows you to feel aligned in your purpose as well as hold you accountable for doing the things that need to be done in order for your brand and business to succeed.

Suggestion: Look at the rest of this year and get on your overall goal for the year, then break that into 1 main goal for each quarter, and then 1 main goal for each month. This is called having vision for your brand and actively working towards that vision.

Make prayer an consistent part of your life

Prayer doesn’t have to be this awkward thing where you get on your knees or pull out your bible. It should be something that feels natural and easy! For me, I pray almost everyday at these specific moments which are already built in to my daily morning and night routines:

Morning: I pray in the shower while I listen to my morning playlist.

At this point of the day, I’m praying for the things that I need to get through my day. For example, if I have a day of coaching calls, I ask that God allow me to be his vessel and do his work. To prepare my students with the information they need to make sound choices and move closer towards their goals.

Night: I pray while in bed, right before closing my eyes, thanking God for another day, praying for family and friends and for whatever may be going on in my life.

At this point of the day, I am showing gratitude and thanks for another day.

But every so often, I’ll have to stop mid day and have a conversation with God for patience, for strength or for understanding. And that’s okay too! But having those built in moments where adding prayer to your day should be the easiest is key for being consistent and growing your faith.

Have routines that supports growing your faith

Adding routines such as daily affirmations, journaling, mediation, bible study or church can also help us to  further build our faith. Finding the method that’s best for you is important, it shouldn’t feel forced. For me, it’s a MUST that I write things down. Journaling is a therapeutic practice for me.

In the morning, it allows me to remind myself of my priorities and goals and encourages me to start the day right. I write down the things I want to be mindful of, the 3 things I will accomplish that day and the things that I am thankful for so that I start the day with gratitude.

At night, my method is very different. All I do at night is write down the things I need to do tomorrow, for me it allows me to give myself permission to turn off my brain and get a good nights rest so that I can hopefully have another productive day tomorrow.

3 Faith building practices that will also help you build your brand and business.

1. Budgeting

There are a lot of business based and entrepreneurial principles in the bible. Specifically about good stewardship.  If you can’t be trusted with a dollar - what makes you believe you deserve more?

BEING A GOOD STEWARD IS ALL ABOUT:

  • Taking good care of what you have NOW.

  • Being intentional with HOW you spend your money.

  • Not putting yourself in further debt.

  • Structuring your business with low overhead costs.

  • Being strategic with managing your money.

Set Goals: To build wealth, you have to envision a life beyond what you have now. Set intentional goals for what you want and will do with your wealth.

Strategize: There are many ways to build your wealth. Once you set your goals, strategize the different ways to get there. I’ll provide examples.

Use Software: Make budgeting EASY! There are softwares that do the work for you. Easily track your income, expenses and projections with a tool.

2. Planning

Planning is essential both as a person of faith and as an entrepreneur. Remember the saying “faith without works is dead” welp! It’s as simple as that. Going through life with no plan and no preparation is a recipe for failure and stagnation. If you want a successful business, you have to take the steps necessary for that to be your reality. You can’t just believe that since you prayed for it, you’ll have it. You have to put in the work to prepare for the things you want. Then and only then, will you be deserving of it.

3. Fellowship with other entrepreneurs

Building faith based and entrepreneur based relationships will bless you beyond measure. Being connected to a community of people who value spirituality will naturally help you continue to build your faith. Connecting with other entrepreneurs will allow you to have relationships with people you can relate to as well as learn from.

Go out of your way to build new relationships that are mutually beneficial

Fellowshipping as a form of building a life you love.

I didn’t start to live a life I love until I surrounded myself with the type of people who fit into that life. I ditched old relationships that weren’t serving me and replaced them with fruitful and intentional ones. It’s not an easy process but it’s necessary for you to have the life you want.

Key Takeaways:

  • Building your faith is like building your confidence.  You have to put in the work to convince and remind yourself each day of your purpose and to make decisions that align with that purpose.

  • Faith without works is dead.  If you’re not prepared for the life you say you want, it will never come.

  • You don’t just want friends, you want fellowship.  Find like minded people who you can build intentional relationships with. People you can relate to and lear from while having a mutually beneficial relationship.
